Each chat session has a context limit — a maximum amount of conversation it can hold. When you get close to the limit, VocaLingo warns you. This article explains what the limit means and how to handle it.

What is the context limit

AI models process the entire conversation history each time you send a message. Each model has a maximum amount of text it can hold in a single session — this is the context window. Long conversations, large file attachments and detailed responses all fill up the context faster.

The warning message

When the chat is almost full, you will see: "This chat is almost full. Start a new chat soon."

At this point you can still send a few more messages, but the quality of responses may start to decrease as the model struggles to process the full history.

When the limit is reached, a dialog appears asking you to start a new chat. You can stay in the current chat, but replies may be incomplete or confused.

When to start a new chat

  • When you see the "almost full" warning, especially if you have more questions

  • When you are switching to a completely different topic

  • When responses start feeling slow or less coherent

  • When you want a fresh start without the AI referencing old context

ℹ️ Starting a new chat does not delete the old one. Your previous session stays in Chat history and you can return to it any time.
